Along I come late to the party. I gotta say, the most dearly missed of these for me *is* Suck. A barrel, a fish, and a smoking gun forever man! I remember reading that on Netscape 1.1 back in college! Didn’t know what no blog was, but there was Suck, blogging like there was no tomorrow.

Robotfrank.com oh where did you go! Can’t go wrong on a site about an angry robot and his friends. He dissappeared from the web and found a relatively outdated MySpace page for him a few months back.

You forgot to mention e-town.com, which was one of the most popular electronics review sites of its time. I seem to recall it was bought by BestBuy, which shut it down soon after.

I loved Kozmo.com and it saved my butt during a very cold winter. It cost nothing and they were the coolest guys. I named my cat Kozmo after the site, and was very sorry to see it go. Thanks for reminding me. Great post.

Kozmo’s NYC base was near my house. The bike messengers were pretty cool and had great hipster style, but they got in trouble for hanging out on the sidewalk smoking pot all day. Another problem Kozmo had when it started up was that people decided to have fun testing their “we’ll deliver anything” promise by ordering, say, one 75-cent candy bar. Eventually they had to put a minimum on it. I used it to order VHS rentals. Drop boxes for tape returns were scattered around local coffee shops. Of course, Netflix put an end to all that.

Oh, Kozmo had a local competitor called Urban Express, I think. When their inventory of ice cream hit its expiration date they’d just put the pints on the sidewalk for people to take. Seems so long ago!

My favorite bit the dust in I believe 1998. AllStarNewspaper.com, was a clean page with 20-30 columns pulled from well known newspaper columnists.
