You are gaining the right to use the OS and platform-specific software. No matter what the hardware is, that Apple-specific incentive will always bump the price up a few dollars, as it should.

Apple has a product people want. No one else on the planet has it. They can set whatever price they damn well please and people will still buy it if they want the OS.
