Do you think school pricing will make the $999 MB, a $899 MB? Schoolkids are the target market for such a beast, don't you think?

And, the 13" MB is really a bargain, compared to the 15" MBP, seeing as it gets all the juicy goodness of LED-backlit screen, new fab, aluminum, etc. The only things missing are FW, Express34, and the separate graphics. If you had asked before the launch, what the pricing on a device like that would be, I'd have said $1500 to $1600.

You said:"... there is no $899 MacBook. A shame, because I think this is what Apple needs in order to really start chipping marketshare away from Microsoft."

Huh?!? Did I miss something here? Apple has doubled it's marketshare over the past few years. They've exceeded market projections for 14 of the past 15 quarters. Apple commands 66% of the 'over-$1000' market. And Apple's year-over-years sales and profits are over twice that of the industry (15% vs. 36%).

Which would you rather have - large marketshare or large profits? For Apple and it's sharholders, large profits are the way to go.
