[...] Life Without Comcast: An Update | Technologizer I’ve been remiss in not updating you on my experiment in using an Apple TV with Boxee’s media-center software as a substitute for my pricey Comcast service. “Life Without Comcast” may be a misleading title, since I haven’t tried to go cold turkey–instead, I’ve done some of my TV watching via cable, and some via the Internet, and have been comparing the two experiences as I did so.
I'd like to point out a couple things. You like Netflix, which is buffet style, pay one price and consume what you like. You find cable to be "inefficient," because you pay for things you don't watch. I'm going to guess the difference is what you pay for Netflix versus what you pay for Comcast. The next question is if those prices reflect what it costs to deliver that content to you. If I could get movies online cheaper, would that make Netflix inefficient? Is your desired price to make cable worth your while a realistic price?

You say that web video is not tied to a schedule. That's not true. You can't watch Conan O'Brien or any other network show until it's posted the day after it airs on television. A web video is on demand, but not until it's posted. Yes, if you forgot to DVR it, then you're out of luck, but if more content was available on VOD, perhaps this would address your concerns.
