As far as I remember Outlook 2001 for OS9 was just a very basic exchange client.. not at all on par with Outlook for Windows Outlook Express for Mac (which was actually very good!) or Entourage.

I remember Office 2001 for the Mac even had Clippy ported across :)

The Macintosh Office continuation question is really very simple: Microsoft will keep doing it as long as it makes money. And stop when it doesn't and doesn't seem likely to recover.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Home and Student go away when the web version displaces sufficient sales, but that won't be--it seems--for Office 2010 for Mac (horrible name if they use it: the year has always* been one off, which still causes startled looks for Windows types when a Mac person talks about using Ofice 2004 or 2008). On the other hand, when you have the Business Edition, it doesn't cost much to offer Home and Student.

Since Office '97 for Windows and Office '98 for Mac. And there weren't years in the names before that, just numbers (hated numbers in the case of Word 6 for Mac).
