i have the droid, and I'll say that it is remarkable, the gps is excellent, and I dont mind the keyboard, it adds to the futuristic look. The price is nothing to the luxury, and if you are looking for a phone, buy this one.

My favourite task manager is Notes (as in, the built-in application that syncs with Apple Mail). Seriously.

Apart from Notes, there's Simplist. But the guy next to me wants OmniFocus. The next guy wants something that will sync with Microsoft Project. None of them want to even spend more than a second laughing at me for using Notes, because it's so damned primitive.

Then I show them how quickly I can find TODO items anywhere. Or how quickly I can find stuff in the "@Ned Flanders" context. Then they start using Notes with the built-in search feature too.

Apart from that, everything else you say you want from a Droid v2, makes it sound like you want an iPhone without the Apple logo. You can fix that with a big sheet of self-adhesive vinyl :)

There are a few things on your list that can't easily come to pass.

1- multitouch. patented for use on mobile devices by apple. smart of apple, but evil.

2- task syncing w/google. No one can sync properly with google tasks right now because google hasn't released the API's for the task manager. It's frustrating, but as soon as they do that, syncing task apps will abound.

Other than that... good list. I'd love to get me an android phone.

Tempted, yes, sold, no. I've been tempted by smartphones for a while but haven't made the leap to any of them for one reason that just isn't going away: continuing service fees. The $200 cost of the phone is nothing in comparison to the continuing contract cost. I'm not in a business where a smartphone is a must-have which makes it a luxury device for me. In comparison to a mini-computer like the iPod Touch, however, I don't really see the additional luxury in it. I can justify to myself the cost of a mobile over a landline because it costs only a little more and it provides much more capability that I use every day and in emergencies. I don't see a similar value prop for spending nearly twice as much again for a smartphone plan. Then again, I may differ from the users who think Facebook is necessary in an emergency.

So, if the contract prices come down and the terms improve (a la T-mobile's recent pay as you go) for a good smartphone on Verizon's network, then I'll be in. In the mean time, I'd just feel like I was getting taken for even more every month if I signed up for the data plan.

If *ANYONE* has this phone, can you please comment on GPS lock speed. I am currently on the horrific AT&T in L.A. using a Tilt, and the Tilt usually takes more time to get a GPS lock for navigation than it took me to get to the location to begin with.
