That reminds me of when I was 18 (now 56), I was hoping in the future you could rent a "tourist-robot". Wanna go shopping in Paris? Rent a Parisian robot, stroll around Les Champs Elysees. The thing would have arms with grippers, a little basket to store your purchases, camera and screen (would show your actual live face), etc. Well maybe in another 40 years… (BTW, you look really skinny ;-)

Harry, this is a great article! I really like your attention to detail and videos that you included.

It was weird hearing your voice coming from that little robot. It's like a speakerphone and webcam with wheels. Or perhaps Skye with wheels.

Anyway, as an independent worker I also appreciate that someone is looking at this issue. I don't think the robot is going to be mainstream any time soon, though. It's not very practical, and too clunky.

I think Skype will be used more often for web workers, especially once they start rolling out the Internet-sharing and collaboration tools.

Too pricey but a neat idea. I’ve worked places where we had little homemade “dolls” we placed near the phone when we had our colleagues on the phone during a meeting.

Very cool experiment, Harry. The bot does strike me as a tad creepy though. I’m not sure I could get used to it unless you could see the driver’s face real time on the bot as he/she talked.
