Verizon Wireless May Offer Family Plans for Data

The bad news–at least for some people–is that Verizon Wireless plans to follow AT&T’s lead and eliminate all-you-can-eat data plans this summer. The good news is that it’s talking (albeit vaguely) about family-plan data pricing that would let you spread one bucket of megabytes among multiple gadgets.

". . .follow AT&T’s lead and eliminate all-you-can-eat data plans this summer. . ." Oh this is just great. My family is currently with T-Mobile (w/unlimited data family plan) & it's my understanding that AT&T is in the process of buying T-Mobile. So my guess is that, once AT&T fully takes over T-Mobile, we can say goodbye to our unlimited data plan? What a crock! And here I was, somewhat excited for the merger thinking it might make for a better selection of smartphones (I've had my eye on the BlackBerry Torch as one of my 'wish list' phones for when I can finally afford to upgrade from my slowly dying BB Curve 8320).

Exactly what is the point of these increasingly amazing smartphones (or broadband internet, for that matter) if we'll have to walk on data-usage eggshells every time we use them? It's as bad as what Comcast did when they slyly inserted a data usage cap on their broadband service that applies to all customers–even customers that had Comcast broadband for years (and were told it was unlimited) before they opted to implement a data usage cap.
