Needed: An All-New Microsoft Browser

I tend to agree with Jason Cross’s contention that Microsoft’s browser would benefit from a reboot, not an update, and I like his proposals for doing so. (For the record, though, Ford is still flogging the Taurus–in fact, it tried to do away with it and then brought it back. Which is a sobering case study in how hard it is to reboot a venerable, pervasive brand.)

I think I can agree with your assessment regarding Microsoft’s Web browser. However I cannot agree with the Ford Taurus comparison. The Taurus has and was met with praise. Internet Explorer was met with mostly scorn and riducule for being an inferior browswer.

I agree about the UI, and Speed issues. The name has to stay. Most people think Internet Explorer IS the internet, why would Microsoft throw that away?

Isn’t the Taurus that Ford is selling now a completely different car? They had a mid-size sedan with a different name and they decided that it would sell better if they brought back the Taurus name. Purely marketing.
