GigaOm’s Om Malik thinks that Microsoft’s acquisition of Skype could turn out to be smart–and does a good job of laying out why.

This isn't a good move for people who love Skype. I can't be convinced otherwise, especially when he writes this – "and the software company could always botch this purchase, as it often does when it buys a company" – which I wholeheartedly agree with.

A strategic move given Skype is on so many PCs and android phones.
