A major part of the world of Technologizer continues to happen over at Twitter, where I’m @harrymccracken (you can also get a simple feed of all Technologizer stories at @technologizer), and the whole Technologizer conversation keeps on keeping on, in convenient bite-sized chunks. My recent post What I Know About Twitter was a hit here, so I decided to collect more Twitter tips by asking some savvy Twitterers–namely, my friends over there–for their best advice. I tweeted:
And I got tons of good tips in return–all of which you can read after the jump.
[HARRY ADDS: To tweak your backdrop, try a free tool like MyTweetSpace.]
[HARRY ADDS: dcbriccetti is the author of Simple Twitter Client…which is still worth checking out!]
[HARRY ADDS: Yup, that’s more than 140 characters–it was a two-tweet tip, and I merged them. Same thing with at least one other tip here. Shhhh.]
[HARRY ADDS: Hey Wendy, that’s a second favorite tip.]
[HARRY ADDS: If you need a guide to how to use hashtags, check out this one.]
[HARRY ADDS: Yep, that’s more than 140 characters, too–it, and a few other tips here, were submitted via FriendFeed, which breaks the 140-character limit.]
[HARRY ADDS: Looks like there’s a correlation between having multiple Twitter tips and being named Wendy.]
And let’s end this thing with a tip from…me:

Nicely done, Harry. You are exactly right about everyone finding their own way. That's a huge part of the magic of Twitter: it can be customized and adapted in almost infinite ways.

I like that tip about not feeling bad when people you follow don't follow you back. I know some people who make this a big deal. It's annoying sometimes.

I agree with several of these – including helping others and participating. Twitter just doesn’t work if you’re not engaging with some of your followers and keeping a dialogue one. I admit to being on Twitter often on my webtop! It’s constantly open, although I should probably take @kmonson’s advice and take a day off once in a while!

I especially agree with @wwwendyyy’s number tip. I unfollowed someone because of their Lost tweeting.

I don’t get why people follow so many twitters; it’s impossible to keep up. Just to rack up those who follow back? :/.

Tried and true advice for tweets. Personally, I don't really get why people with twitter accounts all want to be at the top. I also have an account and I prefer to not treat Twitter as a popularity contest and just treat it like any other social networking site.
