Kindle App on iPad: No In-App Book Buying

More evidence that competition doesn’t exactly flourish on the iPhone and, soon, the iPad–at least if the company you’re attempting to compete with is Apple….

Can they embed a Safari browser within their app and get around it that way?
It could be made near seemless, with the transaction still taking place “on the web” within the browser.
I guess one could argue that the Kindle doesn’t exactly make it easy to buy iTunes books either. But then the Kindle isn’t claiming to be a rich applications platform.

I think your initial statement that competition doesn’t flourish on the iPhone is pretty ridiculous. Apple is letting the competition (Amazon) distribute its’ (soon to be) competing product (kindle reader) for free (which means that Apple loses money every time it is downloaded (hosting costs, etc.)).
Apple has enabled in app purchasing that Amazon / Kindle is welcome to use but won’t because of the 30% transaction cost.
This really shouldn’t be the least bit surprising since
1. this is how the kindle app works on the iphone
2. the app store terms have been publicly known since the beginning – Amazon isn’t being singled out

Isn’t there already a Free Kindle App on the iPhone? iPhone apps can be run on the iPad. Anyways article bookmarked

It’ll be interesting if consumers will be able to buy books from the iBookstore on the the Kindle, Nook or other e-reader device.
