You’ve Got iPad Questions. I’ll Try to Give You Answers

By  |  Friday, April 2, 2010 at 12:42 pm

I’ve enjoyed reading the early iPad reviews, but much of what they have to say–pro and con–simply recaps things we already knew about the gizmo. Tomorrow morning, Apple Store willing, I’ll have an iPad of my own. And I’m going to do my darndest to spend relatively little time repeating stuff you already know. (This may be a wild rumor, but I’ve heard it may not support Flash!)

Got any questions about it that you haven’t seen answered by anyone just yet? Lemme know–and I’ll do my darndest to answer them as soon as I can…

Can you use any bluetooth keyboard with it or just the Apple one? What about other bluetooth devices like mice?

How prevalent is the behavior in Safari where you choose another loaded page from the thumbnail browser and then have to wait for the page to reload? Is it any better on iPad than iPhone?

Also, when using the device, how much grandma-hatred do you detect? 🙂

Any bluetooth keyboard will work with the Apple iPad. However, Apple only certifies its keyboard for use with the device. Developers can also define keyboard shortcuts like “CMD+N” or “CMD+C” or “V” to work as well (see the iWork software trio).

Bluetooth devices such as mice will not function as the interface is not built to accept its input. While technically capable of doing so, this limitation is set arbitrarily by Apple, not technology. Other Bluetooth items (like headsets) should also technically work, but I don’t have the specific answer for that yet.

I’m interested in Jeremy’s mouse question, but i want to know about bluetooth connectivity, and I’m assuming (for unknown reasons) that Wireless syncing is not possible… still… despite the zune having this functionality.

Ergonomics #1: if you put it on a table (without the optional sleeve) can you type and still see the screen well enough?
Ergonomics #2: assuming you do not sit with your knees up high like in every ipad demo video, how long can you hold it with one hand, and interact with the other, until it gets uncomfortable?

My IPad 32g Safari disconnects from my wireless internet connection and constantly asks me for the wireless password and most of the time it does NOT connect and asks me again and again!!! Then it just says Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet. The same thing happens in my mail…

BTW it worked for 3 days perfect and all of a sudden…

    Thanks!
