Facebook Privacy Confusion: Relief Ahead?

It’s official: A Facebook spokesperson says the company will “shortly” roll out some new features designed to simplify management of the service’s famously complex privacy options.

I’m glad to hear they’re doing something about it, but now that I’ve seen Facebook’s true character, I’m still not going to trust the site with my information.
For example, if I *like* Technologizer on Facebook, what’s to stop the site from randomly showing my profile picture on the box on the right? And what’s to stop stalkers, advertisers, and Facebook itself from seeing that I like Technologizer? As much as I like this site, I don’t want the whole world knowing my likes and dislikes. I just want to follow the news, and if I see something cool, I will deliberately post it on Facebook, so that my friends, and only my friends, can read it.
Can’t wait for Diaspora. (Even then I’ll be careful what I post. It is the Internet after all.)
