Flipboard is one of those programs that really shines on the iPad. But it also demonstrates what some people cite as a knock on the iPad – it is content that is "tarted up" to look nice, but that is available elsewhere in a more efficient form. I use it far down on my list of essential apps, after I process Twitter, Reeder, and Instapaper. I view it more as a cool luxury item, albeit one of the first apps I show off when showing someone my iPad.

Evan, I resonate with your post. We're not trying to create YATC (yet another twitter client). We wanted to create a calm, laid back experience that gives people a break from fast paced, interrupt driven real time networks. Our ideal use cases included breakfast and coffee with your iPad, hanging on the couch after a long day of Twittering at work, getting in some good reading just before bed, etc. So it's as designed right now.

Of course we have an evolution in mind too that will ultimately, I think, make your experience with Flipboard more and more essential over time. It's going to be a lot of fun as we build toward that. Please send suggestions (@mmccue)
