The Verizon iPhone: Consensus At Last!

Now that the Verizon iPhone is real, it’s nice to know that we’re all on the same page about its impact. At least I don’t see any conflict between the takes offered by Newsweek’s Dan Lyons and Dan Ruby of Chitika…do you?

Worldwide, how is Android vs Iphone doing on carriers that have had both? Is the US microcosm the thunderdome for the 2 OS titans, where 2 enter and 1 leave?
I suspect it's a battle for the US but the world has already moved on.

iPhone is leading in Europe and most other high-income regions (just a few days ago there was a story about Denmark where Apple has 16 % of the overall phone market). Android is mushrooming on off-branda in low-income regions which will give it the overall lead in units sold but do little for the bottom line of Google. Expect iPhone to reverse its fortunes in the US and secure a narrow lead in the US by mid 2011. Especially if Sprint and T-Mo are picking up the iPhone it has potential for 50 % US smart phone market share in 2012.

Third option: Despite popular fanboy opinion, there is enough room in the world for Androis and the iPhone. Why does one have to kill the other?

Lyons opinion is hardly surprising since 1- he works for Newsweek which is in cahoots with Microsoft, and 2 he's fake Steve Jobs. It's hard to take Lyons seriously.
