So much for getting that $39.99 PS3: “Target recently became aware of mismatched price and product information on Target.com and Amazon.com, which resulted in the PlayStation 3 Move Advanced Shooter Grip and the discontinued Sony PS3 Hardware System being displayed incorrectly on both sites,” Target spokesperson Morgan Murray has told us. “Unfortunately we are unable to offer either of these items at this time and we are cancelling guests’ orders without any charge to their account. We sincerely regret this inconvenience.”

i bet if this was some small company with this error they would make them honor the sale, but since it's target, they won't. ridiculous, they should at least give the buyers a complimentary gift card

If true, I for one plan to seek the guidance and assistance of my state's (PA) attorney general's office, consumer fraud division reference a complaint concerning possible unethical practices and false advertising by both Target and Amazon. I'm suspicious of Target's explanation, especially since the Amazon description did match the product offered. I would be happy to see stiff penalties levied against those parties for the making of an offer and withdrawing it after the order was placed. I plan to stay away from both Target and Amazon for purchases in the future, simply because I can no longer consider then trustworthy and credible. It's my guess many others will also.

Don't know if you're going to get anywhere. While I think early on those who may have noticed before it was publicized here and elsewhere may have a case, otherwise I think those who tried to cash in later should be rightfully out of luck.

To bad it clearly states that Amazon and Target have the right to cancel mispriced orders in the agreement you made by placing an order. Unfortunately you will just have to live the rest of your life with the trauma of the obviously mispriced $40 PS3’s you were going to resell having slipped away.

They have a clause in their pricing policy that says they can cancel any order at a mismatched price. It's bull shit. They are going to lose more money in the long run for not honoring the price. It shows that their employees are incompetent, and it also displays that they are not a trustworthy company. I was really excited about this deal, because I figured it was their way of getting rid of the old discontinued model. Oh well, I know where I am not shopping anytime soon.

A pricing error is not fraud. Good grief. Don't waste our tax money by wasting the state's attorney generals office time.
January 17th, 2011 at 8:21 pm
But a good merchant will admit their error and at least offer something in a show of good faith.

The attorney general should look into this. It is a tactic to get you to buy a higher priced item because they get you all excited and into the thought of getting the item at a great price then the item is no longer available at that price.. Then some people, not all, will buy the more expensive item to satisfy themselves. Bait and switch pure and simple. I say once they email you a confirmation that is a bill of sale and a contract. It should be honored.

My little 13 year old brother ordered one of these for $40 and he better get a PS3 or I’m going to file a lawsuit against Target for lying to customers and driving traffic to their website illegitimately. Even worse, he’s SLIGHTLY MENTALLY RETARDED!!! Yeah you got that right… Target knowingly fooled a retard into buying their product and now they’ve broken his heart. If he doesn’t get the PS3, we’re going to hire a lawyer and go for punitive damages and emotional stress also. The ball is in your court Target! Take a $350 loss and help out a tard or get ready for a big lawsuit!!!!

I apologize, but you're either extremely inconsiderate, a complete idiot or deliberately trolling for the sake of trolling. I don't buy your comment for a second.
The fact you keep referring to your supposedly mentally handicapped little brother as a "retard" or even worse a "tard" makes me question your post entirely. Anybody who knows mentally disabled or mentally handicapped people knows that they don't like being referred to as "tards" or "retards" just like little people don't like being called "midgets".
So if your story is true (which I doubt), you might want to work on respecting your brother first before going for a frivolous lawsuit. As Greg D said, Amazon listed a discontinued console and Target listed the controller grip in their description so either way it was in error. Target is completely free of any legal action for that reason alone.

Retarded is the proper clinical term. Cut the P.C. crap. That word may be overused, but it is the correct way to define some mental disabilities. Granted why the hell would that kid have access to a credit card on the internet?
February 4th, 2011 at 5:44 pm
Yeah, but "tard" isn't.
January 18th, 2011 at 3:13 pm
I imagine the threat alone of a lawsuit filed by you on behalf of your tard brother has Target Brands Inc legal dept already scrambling to offer you a settlement. Bwhahahahaha!
January 18th, 2011 at 12:41 am
Really? You *really* thought you were getting a $400 console for $40? Especially when:
1.) The description says it was a controller grip, and
2.) The console in question (60gb) has not even been manufactured in 2 years?
January 18th, 2011 at 6:23 am
Dear Greg D. You obviously ordered from Target. If you had ordered from Amazon you would have realized that no controller grip was anywere on the page nor in our email conformation. And how in the world would you think that normal people would know that it was a discontinued version?
January 18th, 2011 at 7:17 am
What amazon says in their emails is kinda irrelevant – their terms of sale allow them to cancel any sale with no penalty if there is a pricing error.
January 18th, 2011 at 7:53 am
FYI: Target still hasn't fully "fixed" the issue, because if you Google "PS3" right now, the very FIRST item that comes up is the title "PlayStation 3 on Sale" with a link to Target.com.

I don't know what state you live in, But in PA we have to give the customer the product at the advertised price. Even if it is an error.

for anyone serious about getting their ps3 please contact consumer affairs. go to their website, they have a form you can fill out, and you can explain to them what happened. you may have a legitimate case on your hands, so don’t give up yet!

I ordered the PS3 Bundle on Thursday, the day BEFORE Black Friday. They sent me 2 confirmations in the past 7 days saying my order should be delivered around Dec 5th – 7th. A week later (today), after all the comparable deals are gone, they cancelled my order because they “no longer have any bundles available”. I purchased it for $249 the day BEFORE Black Friday’s price of $199. What that tells me as a consumer is that if they ran out of bundles on Thursday, they never intended to sell ANY at the Black Friday price. I called Target.com , as well as the corporate office and they all said “I’m sorry this happened but their is nothing we can do. I think this is false advertising and a very shady way to get traffic to their store.
