6. Google: Just browsing!

The rumor that Google might be working on a browser is so venerable that it apparently predates actual work on a Google browser. On Labor Day, the company accidentally came clean in the oddest way: via a leaked comic book by master explainer Scott McCloud. Chrome turned out to be a tad spartan but very nicely done, and Google took it out of beta after only three months. My guess is that they’re going to promote the heck out of it–one more thing for Microsoft to stress over.
