Apple’s MagSafe adapter, which fastens a notebook and its power brick together via a magnetic connection that comes loose cleanly if the cord gets yanked, remains one of the ingenious little proprietary features that make Macs a cut above most of their Windows-running rivals. Here’s the patent that makes it proprietary. It also proves there’s nothing in patent law that requires the elements in a drawing to be in real-world proportion to each other.
